Questions, answered plainly
WebP or AVIF?
Both are modern formats supported by current major browsers and are usually much smaller than JPEG or PNG at similar quality. AVIF often compresses further; WebP is quicker to encode.
Should every image be lazy-loaded?
Images further down the page, yes. Never lazy-load the main image at the top — it delays your Largest Contentful Paint.
Why are my images flagged when they look fine?
Images are often far larger than the space they're shown in. A 3000-pixel photo displayed at 600 pixels wide wastes most of its download.
